01 · HISTORY

How this neighborhood remembers change

1980

Public mourning begins at Mangwol-dong

Victims of the May 18 Democratic Uprising were first buried in the former Mangwol-dong cemetery, where remembrance and calls for truth continued.

1997

The national cemetery is established

After a memorialization project, the present cemetery opened in Unjeong-dong and the victims were reinterred here.

Today

A route for remembrance and learning

The Gate of Democracy, May 18 Memorial Tower, and memorial hall form a route for paying respect and learning the history.
